Beauty Through the Decades

Excerpt by · Licensed cosmetologist, 30+ years

There is no age at which a woman must stop wearing long hair, bright lipstick, shimmer, or fashion-forward color. The useful question is whether the choice still serves the desired effect. Technique and placement may evolve as skin texture, coloring, hair density, and lifestyle change.

More moisture and flexible textures may feel better on drier skin. Strategic definition at the brows, lashes, and lips can restore contrast as coloring softens. Hair shape and shine often matter more than chasing youth. A modern look is one that appears intentional now, not one that follows arbitrary rules.

The face changes gradually through shifts in skin, fat, muscle, and bone. Makeup can adapt with lighter layers, careful placement, and softer transitions. Place blush while looking straight ahead. Test eyeliner with eyes open. Reconsider brow position based on current anatomy rather than an old template.

You do not need to replace everything each season. Update one visible element: the shape of the brow, the finish of foundation, a fresher lip color, a more dimensional haircut, or a contemporary frame. Keep the signature elements that still feel like you.

Confidence is not pretending you have not aged. It is showing that you have continued to pay attention.

From the book

Keep the parts of your identity that still feel right. Update only what no longer supports the current face, body, health, or lifestyle. Confidence is visible when a woman looks recognizable to herself.
